2011 Congress: Actions and Outcomes
The first annual Arts Champions Congress was held on September 29, 2011. Organized by Calgary Arts Development, the Congress attracted over 300 artists, arts administrators, board members, volunteers, corporate supporters, elected officials and public funders. The Congress featured a Keynote Address, five moderated round tables and nine sessions designed to spark conversation and build connections between the attendees.
Despite the differing conversation topics, reoccurring themes of Convene, Advocate, Collaborate and Innovate emerged. These areas were expressly desired by the attendees and viewed as integral in our ability to complete our artistic work, strengthen our sector and expand the circle of Arts Champions in Calgary.
Calgary Arts Development is committed to implementing actions to meet these identified needs. Here's what we've started in the month since the congress.

Executive in Residence Pilot Program
Calgary Arts Development will be launching an Executive-in-Residence pilot program. The Executive-in-Residence is a rotating post, established to formally act as an advisor and mentor for artists and arts organizations. Topics of expertise may include: Marketing, Resource Development, Board Governance, Human Resources, IT, etc. The pilot program will run for a four month period. The Executive-in-Residence will be available for a set number of hours each month. Preference for appointments will be given to CADA clients (those currently funded and those pre-screened for funding) and individual professional artists. Appointments will provide an opportunity to gather feedback on ideas, initiatives and issues that you may need guidance with.
